Year 6 pupils from St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Coundon, County Durham, returned from a memorable three-day residential visit after taking part in a wide range of outdoor activities that challenged them, built confidence and created lasting memories ahead of their move to secondary school.
The residential began with an exciting session on the giant swing. Although some pupils felt nervous at first, everyone embraced the challenge and enjoyed the thrill of reaching new heights. The group then tackled an obstacle course before sitting down to a delicious evening meal. The day concluded with an orienteering activity, helping pupils work together and develop their navigation skills.
After a busy first day, pupils settled in for a good night’s rest, preparing for a packed schedule of adventures over the following days. The trip provided a valuable opportunity for the children to spend quality time together as they approach the end of their primary school journey.
Day two saw pupils take part in rock climbing, abseiling, teamwork challenges and a sensory trail. Throughout the day, the children demonstrated resilience, determination and courage as they faced new experiences and overcame personal fears.
The final day of the residential was just as action-packed. Before returning home on Friday, pupils enjoyed more climbing activities and tested their skills in an energetic game of archery tag.
The three-day residential proved to be a rewarding experience for all involved. As well as enjoying a range of adventurous activities, pupils strengthened friendships, supported one another through challenges and created special memories together before beginning their next chapter at secondary school.
For the Year 6 class, the residential was a fitting way to celebrate their final weeks at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, with fun, teamwork and personal achievement at the heart of the experience.
